About the Rhino Tracking
Guests wake up at 05h30. Coffee and breakfast will be served and then depart at 06h00 for the excursion. A time frame can’t be guaranteed due to the vast area where the rhino’s roam freely and neither can the sightings. Our dedicated guides and local trackers will take you on an unforgettable exploration amid the Klip River between huge, high rising plateaus and volcanic basalt ridges beautifully framed by dramatic panoramic vistas. The natural unfenced environment of Damaraland will provide excellent game viewing opportunities while looking for the elusive black rhinoceros. The excursion involves also a fair bit of hiking. Once classified as critically endangered, the black rhino's numbers has risen dramatically due to a conservation partnership between local communities and eco tourism. The Grootberg Lodge and its conservancy are part of this conservation effort working together with MET and SRT in monitoring the movements of this wonderful animal. Lunch with drinks will be held at a spot in the dry riverbed under the shade of Mopani tree.
