Pelican Point Kayaking

Walvis Bay

Our Pelican Point Kayaking tour gives you the opportunity to kayak amongst our permanent seal colony at the tip of the Pelican Point Peninsula about 35 km outside of Walvis Bay. We regularly encounter Heaviside’s and Benguella Dolphins and - in season between July and November - even whales.

Pelican Point is home up to 50.000 Cape Fur Seals all year round. They are very friendly and playful and not scared of our Kayaks, even when we paddle right next to them. The seals are inquisitive and often come within touching distance of our Kayaks.

Where Is It?

Our Pelican Point Kayaking office is located at the Waterfront in Walvis Bay. The tour starts at 7h45 at our office, where you meet our kayak guide. We take you in our 4x4 vehicle on a scenic drive along the Walvis Bay Lagoon and the salt mines to Pelican Point. We stop along the way to take pictures of our our countless flamingoes, pelicans, large flocks of comorants and great variety of other birds and wildlife.

After approximately one hour we reach Pelican Point where we will get our Kayaks ready for adventure. We provide waterproof clothing and boots for you. Our Kayak guide will give you a safety briefing on how to use the equipment and our local conditions. Our kayaks are molded plastic sit-inside double or single kayaks. They are very stable and suitable for inexperienced paddlers too.

The kayaking takes place on the protected side of the peninsula. We spend around 2 hours on the ocean, depending on general weather conditions. Our guide will use a waterproof camera for some photos, which we will email to you immediatley after the tour.

After Kayaking, we recharge during breakfast with some fresh broetchens and coffee and tea, before we head back to Walvis Bay. Return time is between 12h00 and 12h30.
