The adrenaline-pumping four-day Desert Kayak Trail kicks off on the Orange River, covering a piece of river that falls within the cross-country /Ai-/Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. An exclusive experience where qualified park-employed guides will take you on an epic journey through their proud territory!
Kayakers arrive at Boplaas Camp during the Thursday afternoon. At arrival our hosting team will allocate your tent, supplied with a stretcher and mattress (you bring your own sleeping bag and pillow). The host will explain the procedure for the next day's departure and will arrange for luggage collection, which will be taken on your behalf, to the next night's camp-site – leaving you with a worry-free kayak experience, and ensuring a dry arrival for your bedding and clothes.
After an early Friday morning breakfast you will be transported to the launch side to kick start your adventure on the mighty Orange River. Your tent, bedding and luggage will follow, dryly.
The first day's paddling and second night's camping depends on water levels. A map with launch location will be available for those interested in following their progress on the water.
Saturday afternoon will be spent at the Richtersberg Campsite in the Richtersveld, and Sunday at the picturesque De Hoop.
At mid-day on Monday we exit at Donkiewadrift, from where we'll transport guests and their belongings back to the Boplaas Camp from where we departed. We should arrive here at around 14:00.
Monday night could be spent at Boplaas, accommodation free of charge, meals excluded.
Directions to Boplaas:
The closest 'town' is Noordoewer (on the Namibian side of the Orange river – remember to fill your vehicle here!), around 93km from Boplaas.
At Noordoewer drive to Engen, follow the tar road hugging the river in the direction of Felix Unite/Amanzi/Aussenkehr. Pass Aussenkehr and drive along the river on the gravel road. You’ll go through the Gamkab River (via a concrete drift) and 11km further the road turns away from the river to cross a mountain. Keep going, now only 37 km to go. As you come off the mountain you will see the river in front of you, and if you look carefully, you’ll see our camp – in fact, if you lost the use of brakes you would drive into our pool!
It is also possible to reach Boplaas via Rosh Pinah, located roughly 65km north west of the camp.

During the day's kayaking our resident Nama guides will give you a fresh take on the intriguing area, and will keep you smiling with their story-telling skills.
Distance covered each day depend on group and water levels.
Each camp has a set-up of sit-down table and chair dining area, as well as a sociable campfire with a lazy camp chair setting.
Breakfast is served each morning at camp, with a light lunch along the way, and dinner on the banks of the river.
Guests will receive more information on what to bring and expect upon registration.
Minimun Persons Required = 6. Maximum Persons Allowed Per Trip = 32. No children under 6 allowed.

Tours kick off on Thursdays from March 2016. Please plan to arrive at our camp on Thursday evening at the latest to get ready for the next day’s departure.
