There are a number of places on earth that capture your creative imagination and leave a lasting impression on your mind. Namibia happens to have a number of them along its coast which serve as much sought after retreats. Terrace Bay is one such NWR facility - an angler's paradise offering an absolutely unsurpassed coastal experience packed into one destination. 

Whereas the camp is ideal for anglers, it is also set in an undisturbed and peaceful surrounding enveloped in the sand dunes of the northern Namib Desert. Whether it is families looking for a getaway holiday or ardent adventurers looking to explore the Uniab River delta, Terrace Bay has something for everybody. 

The camp caters for a maximum of 50 people and thus ensuring not only minimum human induced impact on the environment but also an enhanced wilderness experience for the visitor. 

Terrace Bay is situated in the Skeleton Coast Park in north‐west Namibia. It is around 5 hours drive north of Swakupmund. As it is the only hostel inside the park, it can attract a decent amount of tourists, mainly because there is nowhere else to stay.

 

This is a destination for the angling crowd. It's a remote location, but the chances of catching a variety of fish here are excellent, and amongst the best on Namibia's coastline. Fishing permits are essential by law, and anglers must read the Fishing Act to know how many, and what sort of fish they can catch, how they can transport them home, and in what form. Filleting is not allowed and anglers must bring their own tackle.

Some visitors to the area use Terrace Bay as a point to explore the Uniab River Delta, a great destination for hiking, bird watching, game viewing and dunes. Walking along the beach is also very popular, and probably the only other activity visitors can do here.

  • The cold Benguela current which runs offshore in the Atlantic Ocean is the source of a large variety of fish species. Therefore bring along your rod and experience a fishing adventure of a lifetime! Remember to obtain your fishing license at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources before entering the Skeleton Coast Park.
  • Venturing into the nearby Uniab River Delta exposes the visitor to a wilderness aspect of Terrace Bay that few are aware of. Whether it is hiking, bird watching, game viewing or just living a sundowner on the dunes, Terrace Bay is a destination with a difference! 

What To Do?

  • Fishing - The location is perfect for angling - but remember to bring you own equipment and a fishing permit!
  • Game viewing - The Uniab delta is home to a number of wildlife. Request a sundowner drive into the Delta!
