Did You Know?
The farm Otjimbondona was acquired by Ida and Steve Sutton Slaney in 1922. This place is known to be a collective place for the Herero tribe, where they found water as well as shade under the big camelthorn trees, prior to 1922. Otjimbondona is now surrounded by farms with girl names such as Helene, Renette, Constance to name a few.
The original farmhouse was built in 1923 for the Slaneys, by the well-known Italian mason, Filipo Philisario. He built amongst others, the Avis railway bridge as you enter Windhoek coming from the Hosea Kutako Airport. The initial farm house, just two rooms at the time, was built out of local stone (klip) which was dressed on site.
