Bitterwasser Lodge
Mariental2:30 from Windhoek
The unconventional architectural style of the lodge resembles a sculpture, made from natural stone and grass-thatch. Each room has a terrace with an amazing view onto the surrounding farmland, Kalahari dunes and the famous Bitterwasser pan, plus your personal piece of the African night sky. Modern conveniences such as air conditioning, en-suite baths and free Wi-Fi internet throughout the lodge come standard.
Hidden from curious onlookers is a pool with sunbathing area and comfortable deck chairs. A game of garden-chess is available, and you can arrange with the staff for a match of table tennis or billiard.
Bitterwasser Lodge also has 15 Rondavels to host guests wanting affordable accommodation, nestled in a cluster under large shade trees. These rondavels share communal bath facilities and are only steps away from our restaurant and bar. In addition a guide house and converted farmhouse are available with en-suite baths.
The lodge gardens are landscaped to tread carefully with our most prized possession, water. Soon to come we will harness what we have in abundance, sunlight, by installing a photo-voltaic grid feed system. Because we are here to stay we are committed to recycling. We have partnered with a expert company in Windhoek to ensure pristine landscapes for generations of the future.
Did You Know?
Bitterwasser has garnered world-acclaim as a Mecca for glider pilots, no other spot on the planet is associated with so many world records and nowhere else do glider pilots fly more kilometers each year than from here. The magic of the Kalahari’s largest palm-tree alley is testimony to gliding accomplishments of former guests, dating back as far as the 1960’s.
Only ten minutes driving distance from the lodge is the unassuming village of Hoachanas, home to the ""Rooinasie"" Nama-tribe. Hoachanas offers much historical depth, being the traditional headquarters of the Nama-tribe in previous centuries and home to the second oldest church in Namibia.
